Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
At Volunteers in Action, we endeavor to find ways to appreciate, support and train our volunteers so that they can safely and effectively serve their VIA Friends. On May 16, about 14 of us were able to gather and enjoy a delicious BBQ meal served by Keith Bouma of BBQ Carnivores.
We were honored to be joined by Tracy Opp, a social worker at Arapahoe County Adult Protection. Tracy led us in a training on our role as mandatory reporters in the state of Colorado. Anyone who is in contact with seniors and people with disabilities is required to report to the state any suspicion of abuse or neglect. Tracy defined what constitutes abuse and neglect, and instructed us on when and how to make a report. She described the process that Adult Protection caseworkers go through when investigating these reports.
We are grateful to Tracy for sharing this important information. If you are a volunteer with us, and would like to know more about mandatory reporting procedures in Colorado, please view this presentation HERE.
Thank you to Hope Fellowship Church for sharing their fellowship room with us!
